Hymn 133 (verses 1, 4, 6) (Tune 79):  The Line of David

·        While Israel was idolatrous Judah followed God and prospered

·        Jehoshaphat followed in the good ways of his father Asa along the Dynasty of David

·        The eyes of people are always on their leaders, and if the leaders are good there is prosperity 

·        This was true of Judah, and is true of those who follow Great David’s Greater Son today

·        Revelation talks of the coming Kingdom when those who follow the Lifestyle exampled by Jesus Christ will live and reign with Him

Ahab, 7th Kings of Israel, continues to reject God’s Leadership:

-          War with Syria – 1 Kgs 20:1-4, 8, 13, 16, 19-23, 28, 30-34, 38-43

-          Naboth’s Vineyard – 1 Kings 21:1, 5-7, 16-20, 27-29

-          Alliance with King of Judah – 1 Kgs 22:1-8, 15-18, 27-28, 34-37

·        Even after the demonstration of God’s Power through Elijah, Ahab continued to do evil

·        Three major events are recorded:

-         His disobedience in not destroying the enemy as commanded by God

-         His response to Naboth, through accepting his wife’s actions

-         His neglecting the advice of God’s prophet in going to war

·        Are we blind to the Power of God in the world around us

·        Despite what others are doing, as individuals, we must each seek to follow God’s will for our lives in preparation for the return of Jesus Christ as King of Kings
