Thy Law is Within My Heart - Jeremiah in the Well

Outline of Online Service 12th December 2021

Thy Law is Within My Heart  Psalm 40:8

Hymn 115:  The Good and the Bad

The Lord’s Prayer  (Luke 11:2-4)

Psalm 40:1-8 – God Will Deliver

Bible Readings:

Jeremiah in the Well:  Jeremiah 38:1-20, 24-28; 39:15-18

Zedekiah and Jeremiah:  2 Kings 24:17-20

Lifted from the Pit:  Matthew 12:9-14

A Sure Foundation:  Matthew 7:15-29

Hymn 26:  Joyous Peace Promised

·                     Jeremiah was persecuted for standing up for right; his own family turned against him even though he was a Prophet of the Lord – but he kept God’s Law in his heart

·                     He was delivered from the well by someone who was not a fellow Israelite, but who was motivated by concern and compassion

·                     His delivery was helped by the use of material that others had discarded, which was used to provide comfort in his rescue

·                     God seeks to deliver us from the pit of sin and death into which the devil pushes us all; God’s delivery is through faith, truth and love –traits which in many ways are becoming discarded by the world

·                     God will raise us up and set our feet on the solid Rock (Jesus Christ) as we look forward to the New Heavens and New Earth that He has promised

·                     Jesus said, “If a man keep my saying he shall never see death” – we believe it as we hold His promises in our hearts and await His return and the fulfillment of God’s Plan.

Hymn 69 – The Great Redeemer

·                     God reigns as the Creator of all things; He reigns as Controller of this World, and He seeks to reign in the life of each believer

·                     Jesus fulfilled the expectations of Old Testament scholars that  - an authoritative Prophet would arise - Elijah (the Power of God as was manifest in Elijah) would return - The Christ (Messiah) would come

·                     At Christmas we think of Jesus Christ in all these roles – born in humility, crucified in humanity, and to appear in glory – He will Reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords

·                     If we present a sacrifice (gift) of righteousness to God, He has promised to reign in our lives, and we hold the hope to be preserved wholly - in spirit and soul and body – until His return.

Hymn 94 – God Reigns Over All

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:  The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:   The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.  Numbers 6:24-26

Enquire of the Lord 2 Kings Chapter 3

Outline of Online Service 10th October 2021

We .. May Enquire of the Lord  2 Kings 3:11

Hymn 68:  Drink Freely Available for the Thirsty!

The Lord’s Prayer  (Luke 11:2-4)

Psalm 42:1-5, 8 – Thirsting After God

Bible Readings:

Water from Where?  2 Kings 3:1-24

God’s Water Supply:  Revelation 22:1-20

Living Water in the Desert:  John 4:1-15

Hymn 21 – Tune 23:  Quenching Spiritual Thirst

·                     After a seven day search no water could be found, so the three kings enquired of the Lord as to what they should do

·                     They were told to dig trenches across the dry ground of the valley, and in the morning they would be filled with water; not only did this happen, but the enemy also saw an illusion in the water that made it easy for the Israelites to win the battle

·                     God can, and does, do whatever is needed to help His people if they enquire of Him, and the enemy is often not able to understand the simplicity of His victory

·                     The world is lacking “daily bread” (spiritual food and water), and do not understand the potential of God’s Power, but God will provide the needs of those who enquire of Him

·                     The ultimate battle between good and evil will be won in those obediently awaiting the return of Jesus Christ and who are seeking to be preserved wholly in spirit and soul and body – thereby entering the Promised Land.

Psalm 111 – The Works of the Lord are Great

Bible Readings:

·       The Tower of Babel:  Genesis 11:1-9

·       The Talking Donkey:  Numbers 22:1-6, 20-35

·       The Creation Speaks:  Isaiah 40:25-31

·       Communicating in the Spirit:  Romans 8:22-27

·       Talking With God:  Matt 13:9-17

·       Hymn 99:  An Unspoken Word!

·        When God initially created people they all spoke the same language, but after the Tower of Babel languages were sent to divide the unity that existed

·        The Bible does not say whether people and animals used to speak verbally to each other, but they have had ways of communicating!

·        God used a talking donkey to awaken Balaam to His Presence

·        God continually communicates with us through His Creation, but do you hear, see and recognise Him?

·        The whole creation groans and travails waiting for the return of Jesus Christ to reconcile the World to God, including the fulfillment of the promise to receive everlasting life (without physical death) – the redemption of our body. (Rom 8:23)

·       Hearing From God:  John 14:23-27

Hymn 34:  Living in the Spirit

·        God has provided instructions on how we should live in the Bible

·        God had provided details about His Plan for this World through the prophecies in the Scriptures

·        However, to understand and believe what is written each of us needs to develop a relationship with God’s Spirit

·        Whilst the words are necessary to convey the message, the meaning only comes when we are individually taught what it means by God

·        In these Last Days we look for fulfillment in the return of Jesus Christ, and seek to God to draw us to be of those who will sit with the Lamb on Mount Zion.

Hymn 90:  God’s Witnesses

·        God appoints whom He will to preach His Message

·        Sometimes God selects people to share their own experiences, and sometimes to proclaim the Message as set out for all in the Scriptures

·        Once we are convicted of the Truth of God and His Ways, we will want to share our beliefs with others

·        Some may want to share the wonderful assurance of the resurrection, and others the hope of being alive until Jesus Christ comes back to this earth

·        We believe we are living in the time when we can seek to be preserved wholly in spirit and soul and body until that time, and be changed by the Power of God from mortal to immortal beings at His return.

Be Ye Also Ready  Matt 24:44

Hymn 102:  Trust in God

The Lord’s Prayer  (Luke 11:2-4)

Psalm 139:1-6, 14-17, 23-4 -  God Prepares Us

·       Mary and Joseph:  Matt 1:18-25

·       Be Ye Therefore Ready:  Matthew 24:36-51

Hymn 123:  Show Thy Presence in Our Lives

·        God has a Plan for this world, and nothing that happens is a surprise to Him!

·        God frequently reveals aspects of His Plan by way of prophecy, then fulfills it in due time, often with an early and latter dual fulfillment.

·        John the Baptist was the forerunner of the coming of the Messiah, but the prophecies relating to him can also apply to preparation for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

·        Mary and Joseph were selected by God to fulfill many prophecies in Scripture without realising they were doing so.

·        Jesus spoke about His return and what we need to do to be prepared for it.

·        Are we willing for God to include us in His Plan relating to Jesus Christ’s return, and do we hold the hope of being preserved wholly to witness that great event?

·       Hymn 47:  Proclaiming His Return
