Summary of Readings

§     Athens was a great City in lots of ways, and the heart of many Athenians was also to seek after the Truth

§     From the beginning God had allowed Satan to develop different understandings in people’s minds, but promised that a great light of truth would arise

§     Whilst waiting at Athens Paul visited the Areopagus where many people gathered to discuss ideas and philosophies, and explained to them the Christin Faith

§     In Romans Paul further explained that God gives different understanding to each of us, and our responsibility is to account to God for what He has given us personally, rather than contend with people holding different beliefs

§     People interpret the Bible in different ways do you believe in the return of Jesus and seek for life for evermore (spiritual or physical) to be attained when He returns?

Summary of Readings

§     Peace can create a separation from things that are happening around us, and enable a feeling of calmness within ourselves

§     God told His people that they could have peace within themselves even though in the world they were in captivity

§     Jesus said He offered a different kind of peace to that offered by the world

§     Paul speaks of God’s Peace being beyond human understanding

§     Jesus asked that His disciples receive peace through the evil being taken out of them rather than they being taken out of the world

§     If we receive God’s Peace within us that will allow us to go through the trials of this world and be preserved wholly – in spirit and soul and body – until the return of Jesus Christ.

Summary of Readings

§     We are told Philip was a common name early in the first Millennium CE

§     There are four Philips in the Bible: Philip the apostle of Jesus, Philip the Evangelist, two Philips both sons of King Herod the Great to different mothers

§     Philip the Apostle was a pragmatic practical person – rather than describing Jesus in words he said to Nathanel, Come and see

§     Philip the Evangelist had a powerful ministry, and on one occasion was transported by the Spirit; about 20 years later he had four daughters all in the faith

§     We know little about the other Philips, but it would appear they followed their family attitudes – Philip showed no compassion towards John the Baptist when his daughter demanded John’s head!

§     We would all do well to accept Philip the Apostle’s invitation to Come and see, and the life of Philip the Evangelist sets a good example to follow - a (man) of honest report

§     Today we can add to our list a hope to be preserved wholly – in spirit and soul and body – until the return of Jesus Christ.
