Hymn 129:  The war against the Evil

·        Jesus outlined the Principles of a good lifestyle in The Sermon on the Mount, and then lived it out 

·        Years before Isaiah had suggested a similar lifestyle for God’s people to follow, but acknowledged it was hard to follow

·        God has promised help to those who seek to live this lifestyle

·        In thinking of others we end up benefiting ourselves

·        Let us ask God to renew our minds, and remove the evil from within us, so that we can be lights to show His Love to the World

·        The Readings show three main categories of temptation: 

§  power (the lust of the flesh) – to be desired to make one wise

§  prestige (the pride of life) – pleasant to the eyes

§  possessions (the lust of the eyes) – good for food

·        Eve, Jesus and we are tempted with the same temptations – the content changes in different generations, but the process is the same

·        Christ the Spirit of God came upon Jesus and showed Him to be the King

·        The King overcame the temptations of Satan

·        God has promised He will overcome temptation in a Special People in preparation for the return of Jesus Christ

Hymn 14:  God’s Plan

·        Over the next few months we will walk through Matthew and see the key events that he reports including parables, lifestyle and ways Jesus presented His teachings

·        In his Gospel Matthew presents Jesus Christ as The King

·        God had prepared the way for The King, and foreknown the generations of men and events leading to His birth

·        We may not realise the importance of what might sometimes seem to us as just “normal” events 

·        We believe we are living in the time when Jesus Christ will return, this time as the King of Glory, and will reign over the Earth

·        Are you living in expectation of these events, and seeking to follow the lifestyle exampled by The King?

·        God gave the Commandments to Israel, and set out a life-style for them to follow to be His Special People

·        Disobedience has separated them and us from God

·        Jesus gave His life a sacrifice to reconcile us back to God, which we receive through grace

·        God’s life-style recommendations still remain, and it is to our own good to seek to follow them

·        God’s Israel in the Latter Days will be recognised by a willingness to follow His Laws and Commands

·        You must accept the sacrifice of Jesus to be reconciled to God, and then have the choice to follow His commandments to show your love for what He has done.

·        Moses had warned Israel not to be influenced by the gods of the land they invaded, to turn away from God

·        The good new – the lineage of King David crosses back from Judah into Israel so that both Monarchies have descendants of David

·        The bad news – both nations turn further from God!

·        There is timing in God’s Plan and ultimately He will rule over all

·        There are promises for a remnant of Israel to return and worship God, but more importantly for each of us as individuals to follow His commandments.
